Thưa Dr Schmidt và Mr. Hanke,
Trong lúc soạn thảo bức thư liên quan đến việc Trung Quốc đang tranh đoạt gần như toàn bộ biển Nam Hoa, anh chị cộng sự viên vào trang mạng www.googlemaps.com kiểm tra xem có gì khác với bản đồ đang lưu trữ trong trang mạng www.ditu.google.com (Lưu ý: đính kèm bức thư chúng tôi email đến ông ngày 20/10/2011).
Chúng tôi rất sửng sốt, những bản đồ lưu trữ trong các trang web liên kết của googlemaps không giống nhau tuy rằng những bản đồ này đều cho cùng khu vực. Bản đồ vùng Biển Đông trong www.googlemaps.com không có lồng thêm đường vẽ đứt đoạn gọi là “lưỡi bò” (một thuật ngữ của Trung Quốc), trong khi đó trong www.ditu.googlr.com xuất phát từ Trung Quốc lại có nó.
Chúng tôi trở lại kiểm tra đường biên giới đất liền dọc theo thành phố Lào Cai mà, vào ngày 02 tháng Tám năm 2011, Giám đốc giao tế Quốc tế của Google đã báo cho chúng tôi rằng sai sót về đường biên giới vẽ cắt ngang thành phố Lào Cai đã được chỉnh sửa. Lại cũng y như vậy, những bản đồ của vùng Lào Cai trong hai trang mạng lại có sự bất nhất tương tự, đó là bản đồ thành phố Lào Cai trong www.ditu.google.com vẫn tiếp tục giữ nguyên tình trạng đường biên giới cắt ngang thành phố Lào Cai trong khi đó trong www.googlemaps.com đường biên giới đã được sửa đúng.
Chúng tôi trân trọng lưu ý ông về sự bất nhất về các bản đồ nêu trên. Những bản đồ trong www.ditu.google.com rõ ràng được chỉnh sửa có thiên vị về phía Trung Quốc, mà có thể xem như là sự vi phạm nghiêm trọng đến nguyên tắc trung thực mà Google theo đuổi, và là sự vi phạm đau đớn đến sự toàn vẹn lãnh thổ của Việt nam.
Chúng tôi chân thành cám ơn sự quan tâm sâu sắc của ông và yêu cầu ông tiến hành chỉnh sửa những bất nhất của các bản đồ trong một thời gian sớm nhất có thể.
Chúng tôi và đồng bào Việt Nam trên toàn thế giới đang nóng lòng chờ thư trả lời của ông.

Re: the discrepancy of the border lines between Vietnam and China shown on http://maps.google.com and http://ditu.google.com
Dear Dr Schmidt and Mr. Hanke:
During our drafting of a letter concerning China's current territorial claim of a very large swath of the South China Sea, our colleagues checked to see whether maps in http://maps.google.com would show the same details as those shown by http://ditu.google.com . (Attn: our letter emailed to you on 20 October, 2011, attached).
To our astonishment, the maps in the Google-affiliated websites from China are not the same although they cover the same areas. The map in the http://maps.google.com does not have the so-called "cow tongue" (China's terminology) dotted line in the South China Sea whereas that in the http://ditu.google.com does.
We then rechecked the Vietnam-China land border along Lao Cai City which you informed us back in August 2010 that the error had been fixed. Again, the maps show the same discrepancy, that is the map of the Lao Cai City in http://ditu.google.com still shows the border line cuts through the city while that in http://maps.google.com does not.
Please review the two maps below to see their distinct differences about the border lines.
We would like to call your attention to the discrepancies of the maps involved. The maps in http://ditu.google.com clearly favor China, which can be viewed as a serious breach of the principle of neutrality embraced by Google, and a grievous violation to the sovereignty of Vietnam.
We would appreciate it if you would look into this matter with a sense of urgency and have the discrepancies resolved in a very short time possible.
We and our fellow Vietnamese from all over the world are anxiously waiting for your reply.

It has come to our attention that Google maps when accessed from China shows a map of China having the hand drawn dotted line wrongfully claiming almost all of the South China Sea.

This incorrect and premeditated claim by China has been strenuously objected to by all Southeast Asian countries, especially Vietnam and the Philippines, the two countries which are most affected by this aggressive act of Chinese authority. This fabricated map of China with the hand drawn sea territory line, which is dubbed “the cow tongue shape” line, is the subject of on-going protests by not only all the countries in Southeast Asia but also the majority of countries in the world .
As concerned Vietnamese, in concert with the letter we sent to you on September 5, 2011 alerting the inclusion of the “U shape” boundary line by Chinese authority in their national map, we request that you act quickly to have the hand drawn dotted line on South China Sea removed. The longer this falsified dotted border line is shown in your Google maps-China website, the more injurious it is to the integrity of the territory of Vietnam, the Philippines and the other countries in the South China Sea.
